Fuck you Adobe
What. The. Fuck.
Why on earth must one reboot twice when installing an update to Adobe Acrobat Professional? I went from 7.0.something to 7.0.9 tonight. In retrospect, I should have known better. For it was none other than Adobe that was one of the first companies to bring us product activation with their CS products. Thanks! What was that title again? Fuck you Adobe.
First, it downloaded a bazillion megabytes of shit to my computer, forcibly closes my PDF viewer without asking, and just spends ages doing God knows what. Then, it makes me reboot. Then, even before Windows Explorer comes up on reboot, I’ve got a dialog box asking me to reboot again. W-H-Y???
I seem to recall Windows XP Professional going to SP2 with a single reboot. Linux kernel upgrades? Single reboot.
This does not bode well for former Macromedia products like Dreamweaver, Flash, and Shockwave. Not that they were the greatest applications to begin with, but I don’t recall having to reboot in between Flash updates.
I wish there were better alternatives. Fox-It is fine, but really, when you need compatibility or the ability to make PDFs, Adobe is the way to go. Why is Apple’s Preview.App fast as shit? Why can I make PDFs from any document in OS X? Why does xpdf open super-quickly? Man. I’m going to go kick someone.
